Legal Malpractice and Professional Liability
For more than 20 years, lawyers and law firms in Florida have relied on veteran trial attorney D. David Keller and his team for guidance in protecting their most valuable asset, their reputations.
Mr. Keller and his partner Alan L. Landsberg have defended some 400 legal malpractice claims in virtually every substantive practice area. Mr. Keller has tried 45 cases to jury verdict and argued more than a dozen appeals in state and federal courts. He is the current President of the Fort Lauderdale Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), an invitation only group of select trial lawyers of the highest professional standards. Mr. Landsberg, a board certified trial lawyer, has tried more than 30 jury trials. He too is active in the legal community: through his election to ABOTA membership, as a member of the Professionalism Committee of the Broward County Bar, and his previous service on the Florida Bar Civil Procedure Rules Committee and the Bar's Ethics Committee.
Whether it's evaluating potential claims, defending malpractice suits, responding to bar grievance proceedings or engaging in preventive claim repair, defending and preserving professional reputations is the primary focus of Keller Landsberg.
Today, most large law firms employ appointed in-house counsel, often at the urging of their sophisticated insurers. Small and medium size firms have similar needs, but cannot justify designating the limited resources of the firm to the demanding role of a full time general counsel. In addition to defending active claims and suits, Keller Landsberg is available to serve as outside general counsel for small and mid-size firms, offering timely preventive advice on ethical and risk management issues before claims arise.
"We know the law of lawyering," says D. David Keller. "It is imperative for professional liability counsel to exercise sound judgment; knowing what claims to settle and what claims to defend and, most importantly, knowing the difference early. The image of our colleagues and our profession is never served by shrill intransigence in response to any dispute, no matter how contentious. Lawyers fulfill their responsibility as officers of the courts only by adhering to the highest levels of professionalism. We advocate forcefully for our clients - but always with respect for the system we serve. And we consistently urge our colleagues and adversaries to help us set the right example."
Keller Landsberg attorneys assist clients in mitigating risk whenever possible. The firm provides vital risk management counseling, and assists law firm clients in implementing strategies for correcting and avoiding vulnerable risk areas. We engage in claim repair, working with law firms and their insurers to help prevent and reduce the incidence and severity of actual and potential claims.
Here's how we can help you navigate the uncertainty of unresolved and difficult client disputes:
- We focus on representing lawyers and law firms.

- We advise on, initiate and handle fee claims for law firms, in anticipation of and to avoid likely defenses and counterclaims.
- We work with our law firm clients to preserve their client relationships.
- We understand the highly sensitive nature of professional liability, and strive to keep the names of our clients and their matters out of the press.
